The Isley Field (actually, it is misspelled name of US Marine Corp pilot, who died during first attacks on Saipan) is name of WWII US Army Aviatoin Corp airbase on the south end of the Island of Saipan (Appr 15 N, 145 E). During WWII it had two parallel runways of 8500 ft each, and was home of the 73-rd Bomb Wing. From September 1945 to 1976 there were no aviation activities on the abandoned airbase. In 1975 was initiated the project of the Saipan International Airport, which should provide adecvate airport for newly established Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Currently this airport has one runway (still 8500 ft) 7-25, and is named Francisco Ada Saipan International Airport
There are rumors that behind that project was Chuck Finney, the founder and first owner of Duty Free Shopping.
