This is vitamin D3; it's made in the skin and it's also added to foods to fortify them. It breaks down if exposed to UV radiation. The recommended daily dose for people is 600 IU's, but in higher amounts it can be toxic. It's used as an ingredient in rodent poison; it causes hypercalcemia (high calcium), which leads to kidney failure and death.
