The multi function control module usually refers to the computer module that controls the automatic transmission in modern autos to select the right ratios.
The ECU is the electronic control module which controls the engine management system,it determines what the correct air/fuel mixture and ignition advance should be depending on engine load,throttle position,air n coolant temp etc.The ECU is the main computer and seperate from the multi function module.
