Due to 3 reasons:
1. It was simple (interface and usability).
2. It gave outstanding results compared to the competition.
3. They kept on innovating and coming up with great new products and features.

Because they are they and easy to get an answer from although not always the right answer.

actually, they were funded by the CIA. Which is why google was so rich so quickly, and
why you don't see movies about google like you do abot 'Social Network'.. it was not a 'stroke of
genius', it was a carefully orchestrated technique in getting control over as much web-space
as possible, and it worked. With enough money, and knowing what people want, control is just
a way of power. =]
