      Once a year I use Thompsons water seal mixed with some stain,and apply it with a garden sprayer.very quick. Off brands work just as well.

        to properly stain a fence first depends on what condition its in, how old is it, has it been stained or painted before or is this a newly installed fence? also what type of wood is the fence?
