      You're supposed to do it a few months before your birthday .They don't even care if you apply 6mos before. I have a Dec b/day too........Dec 17th, and they automatically sent me a medicare card without me even  applying. It hasn't been turned down yet. But, my own  health insurance company isn't paying for anything , anymore. I think it's got something to do with Obama care ( oh, excuse me. I mean  '' The Affordable Care Act "
