yes they do other wise its called "contempt of court" meaning you dont reconize the justice system. the'll lock you up till you think otherwise

Actually, nobody is supposed to "swear" to God that they are telling the truth. "Let your yeas be yea, and your nays be nay." In other words, you are supposed to AFFIRM what you say is the truth, and as baswheat stated, you can do this in a court. Simply ask the court that you prefer to affirm your answers.

This is true. "Swear on the bible" is slang. If used, the bible is held in the right hand while the person takes the oath to tell the truth.
