Does any one out there know anything on Demmerage on unused bank accounts ? Like my friend has an account that never gets used and was told to access his account he must pay a demmerage fee, But if he has no cash on him how can he pay an amount like $1.000 u.s dollars to reopen it up if he doesn't have the cash? Is there another way he can access into the account.

I spelt this wrong it's demurrage ( not demmerage.)

There is a French word 'demarrage' which means to start something, so the demerrage could be money needed to re-start the account.
If he has no money, why does he need the account?

Thank you for the help with this word, I didn't recognize it and therefore didn't guess that it was from another language. Good catch nomdeplume!

No the account isin't closed its an open account but my friends in the Army and he never uses his account, and hasn't for some years, but he was told because he has a large amount stored in there and hasn't used it he must pay the bank a certain amount to re gain into the account. I question this myself but i was just curious whether anyone on here knows anything about this sort of thing.

yes he does because its an account that never gets used. but because of this he was told he must pay a fee which is called a demurrage because of the large amount he has in his account. so its about a thousand dollars to re open the account but he doesn't have the cash from another account to open the existing account and i can't help him that way.
