What physical injury caused you the worst pain you've ever experienced? If you want you could include emotional pain.

I've had kidney stones several times, and that was several times to many. It's worse than back pain for the most part.

So what has caused you the worst pain you've ever experienced?

Going by all the stories below we should give thanks we are all still alive!
    leeroy

Yeah, thank God. Sometimes the pain has been so bad I've wished for death, life's a difficult struggle, for some it's more difficult than others. Thank you all for the painful truth and answers.

Iv'e experienced the worst pain known to man kind...it is called Trigeminal Neauralgia. The pain is excruciating and gives you electric type shocks to the side of your face.It got that bad that i had to have the operation, this involves going under the brain and wrapping the trigeminal nerve with teflon to keep it from touching a blood vessel, this was done in 2007 and have been pain free since.

Another bad one would be child birth, but thats another story

As for emotional pain...yep had a lot of that too.

    melandrupert

wow pythonlover that does sound painful glad you are better now lol

Broke the arch of my left foot in 5 places, dislocated my ankle & my knee all in the same m'cycle accident.Nearly got hooked on Pethadene.

    leeroy

Wow, that sounds bad, I've broken fingers and toes, and had two separated shoulders, but the kidney stones were worse. Thanks for the answer thumbs up.
    PEOPLELOVER

One of my many wives got hooked on Pethadene and it was a bastard to fight off .
    How`s it dangling Tom?
    Tommyh

Feeling better now thanks PL.thank christ for anti-biotics.
    How are you mate.
    Tommyh

Also dislocated both shoulders in a different M'cycle accident. That bloody hurts too but not too bad when they pop back in.
    bulletman

God you guys sound like the walking dead.
yea Leeroy I know what your talking about when you mention kidney stone yes I had the same thing it was worse pain than when i gave birth and I didnt think I would ever experiance pain like that again well I did and when I did manage to pass the stone I collasped on the floor not a pretty site on next to the loo with your pantys around your knees is this all happened at home before they rushed me to ER
    leeroy

Sorry to hear that, one of my friends girlfriends said she's given birth to two children and had one kidney stone and would rather have a child than another kidney stone.

Mine was'nt a physical injury but local anethestic that went wrong. when i was 35 i decided to have a Local Vasectomy which required  two needles in each teste, the first was ok but the second one, the surgeon must have missed and started cutting and so forth, the pain was so excruciating i could  not talk and the nurse came in and saw the sweat pouring off my head , ask me if i could feel anything ,all i could do was nod my head, the doctor hearing this said ,' I Can't stop now almost finished' thank god i don't have to do that again. p.s. i hope that was not too graphic!

    bulletman

    Beleive me mine were too
    IluvJesus

That is very similar to my story read below.OUCH!!!!How painful that must have been.
    leeroy

Dude, that totally sucks! Sounds like a lawsuit to me. I hate it when doctors screw up it really causes horrible unnecessary pain. Unnecessary pain is the worst, at least if they do their job rite they can drug us up to deal with it.
    Tommyh

How's your sex life now Bulleman?LOL

Sorry bulletman, that must've been awful for you. I bet it seemed like forever for him to get done with you.
    bulletman

Leeroy i cold have opt. for a general anethestic bit being a mach at the time i chose local, if there was a next time i would think twice. In OZ THE MEDICAL PROFFESION IS VERY HARD TO HAVE A CLAIM AGAINST THEM.
    bulletman

malandrupert & Leeroy, i know a few guys and girls who have passed kidney stones how it ripps going through and how painful to urinate afterwards, it's supposed to be the closest thing for a man pain wise for having a baby.
    bulletman

Tommyh, my sex life was even better, my ex. & new partner of 20 years had no fear of getting pregnant, and they gave/give 100%

Had 1st. an 2nd. degree burn that covered 2/3 of my back, and had to have dead skin peeled away several times a week as it healed. I had to take small steps in order to minimize movement in my back and it hurt so bad it would me me sweat and tremble. For the walk home I would bring a pint of vodka and finish it by the time I got across the parking lot, That was the only way I could handle the pain until the freshly exposed nerve endings were not so sensitive against the bandages. I think many doctors just don't realize how much pain their patients are experiencing, and many of those combination drugs are fairly useless for extreme pain.

    bulletman

Always a pet fear of mine is being badly burnt, i saw on t.v. a commando with burns to most of his body including his face a result of the Falklands war it was horrific. i hope you are ok now.
    itsmee

You have to be very clear about how much pain you're experiencing. It't the doctor's job to keep you comfortable. SCREAM next time.
    mycatsmom

that must have been the worst pain of all. Sorry you had to suffer.

About 7 years ago, my teeth start to get out of alignment and they all shifted at once.  The excruciating pain was so unbearable, felt like all my teeth were being pulled all at once.

ouch - Did you have to wear braces?
    IamPamela313

My dentist says, my teeth are dangling from my mouth he could use his fingers to pull them out.

So far so good, but, eventually, I will require dental implants.
    Spaceghost

Sorry to hear that Pam, I'll bet you were in a lot of pain, whew that's rough,I hope you the best.
    IamPamela313

Thanks, Ghost - I'm fine, I appreciate your concern. :-)

It reminds of the dream I have about my teeth falling out. Ugh.
    IamPamela313

Thanks God my teeth are not falling out...so far so good, I still have my beautiful smile. :-)

I've had a broken heart a couple times... but guess I'll have to agree the kidney stones were pretty bad (especially the first one).

    IamPamela313

A broken heart still beats... it will heal even through the hardest of trials. :-)
    Tommyh

Poor little bugger.Who broke your poor little heart?LOL

I did have an infection in my intestines that I thought was kidney stones so the pain was very similar. When I went to the hospital they admitted me and I was there for almost a week, I would say it was slightly more painful because it was more constant, sometimes kidney stone pain comes and goes.

Oh my gosh leeroy, that sounds awful too. Isn't it crazy that our body can hurt so much and we still get through it.
    leeroy

Yes, the doctor said if I would have stayed home one more day I would have been a goner. It really is amazing how much pain a body can handle, I'd rather not experience it in the future, lol.
    Yvonne57

leeroy, that's what they said when I was so sick only they gave me several hours instead of a whole day. Hey, check it out - I TU'd you and it turned over to 94015 - cool.
    leeroy

Some people say that doctors always say that, but I find it highly unlikely. Why would a doctor waste the effort scaring his/her patients?
    Thank you Yvonne! Cool.

Tubal Pregnancy is by far the worst pain I ever had.  My husband had gone out to sea and as usual, I thought I was just constipated because of the upset of him leaving for 6 months.  So I ignored it.  3 days later, I was delirious and almost comatose from loss of blood but was able to get to the phone and call 911.  I almost died that day.  Came so close to it, it still frightens me to this day.  I think God kept me here for a reason.  I just don't know what the reason is yet.   R/yvonne57

    IamPamela313

Thanks God you are still with us. :-)

Having both my legs broken in 8 places and pins "nails" driven through one side and out the other, one at ankle and one at knee, both legs..  This was the worst pain I have ever endured in my life and I was only 19 when I went through this..  OUCH! I was on demoral for 3 weeks, first week one shot in the butt every hour on the hour, then after they made me into a drug addict, they had to wean me off of it and I went into terrible withdrawals.. I was in the hospital for 9 weeks.

    leeroy

Sounds like a motorcycle accident or you owed the wrong people money, lol. How is your walking capability now a days?
    Vinny

No, not motorcycle, it was surgery to correct a birth defect in both legs. Not in the genes though, I am the only one in our family both sides that had this problem. Just a fluke of nature that found me. My walking capability has been fine throughout the years but now I am having problems unrelated to the surgery and I will probably need knee replacements soon.. That does run in my family.. Most all my aunts and uncles and my mom had knee replacements, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't work so well.

Vinny - Ouch that sound so very painful. I'm sorry you had to go through something like that.

Ever had a rib out, cant breathe.

I got to agree with you leeroy and Mel. The worst pain I ever had was a kidney stone, I hope I NEVER have another one. I had mine back in 1995 and haven't had another since. Someone told me NOT to drink tea and milk products together, because that would form the stones. I did what he said and haven't had one since.

    melandrupert

well thats not good as I drink gallons of tea with milk lol
    leeroy

Orange juice was what caused mine. I went to the hospital 7 times in 4 years not to mention the smaller ones I passed and just suffered through them. I've had them about 12 times and won't go to the hospital unless I'm balled up in the fetal position on the ground. Sorry to hear that you know what I'm talking about.
    mycatsmom

two of my frineds had kidney stones. Both are male. They were both told in separate hospitals to stop drinking cola drinks. The nurses said they've seen so many people with kidney stones who said they were great consumers of cola.
    Spaceghost

I'm guilty of drinking a LOT of cola, I really need to stop or cut back. Thanks for that mycatsmom.

When it comes to Kidney Stones, Yes excruciating PAIN, I had one to large to pass, had to put a STENT in until they could crush it.  But, I'm not sure which was/is more painful the stones or Lung Cancer Surgery still have alot of pain from it, had in 2006 but, I can guarntee you, I'll never have another.  Just hand me a 357 it won't hurt as bad.

    melandrupert

hope you are getting better now dad59
    dad59

Mel, I guess, I'm ok, just wish the pain would go away, I use pain mgmt Doctor helps some just not enough and don't want to go on harder/potent pain meds.
    leeroy

Yeah, my dad had the same surgery and the cancers back, be doesn't want to go through it again, but may have to.

dad59, I'm a smoker trying to kick it - were you a smoker too?
    dad59

Before my TRIPLE BYPASS, YES, didn't need anything but, that to make me quit.
    Ann

why cant you use medical marijuana? That does not have the side effects that drugs do. I hope in time you feel much better.
    dad59

Ann, even before, Heart/cancer issues, I smoked marijuana it finally got to point, I could smoke a joint with 3-4 others an then, I'd have to press the sheets. I knew everything happening but, I knew if, I stayed sitting, I was going to lose my cookies.

I have to say giving birth for me so far in life was the most painful experience and I did it twice. I have been lucky in life to not really suffer anything more than a broken fist years ago.

    leeroy

Welcome back Mom, hope you had a great time.

I think we can announce kidney stones the winner..I never even mentioned them but they were the reason for my discharge from the army. All those years ago.

    leeroy

Yes, I think you may be right. Major surgery seems to be running a close second.
    Spaceghost

    AMEN !!

I've had a lot of surgeries that for the most part did not cause a lot of pain because your out cold when the work is being done.

However pain can be a part of all surgeries. The most recent is the worst to me now but you do seem to forget pain.

When I had my gall bladder removed I think they woke me up to soon because I felt like I had a knife in my gut, they did it the old fashion way with a long cut with 50+ staples in me, I was having pancreatitis at the same time and they had to look at my transplanted pancreas. I know long story but all my health issues are........lol

Then there was the time, no I'll save that for another time.........lol

    leeroy

I figured you'd have a bit to say on this question, thanks for sharing Randy, I'm glad you're still around, God bless.
    Headless Man

Thanks, leeroy if pain makes you strong then why am I so week.......lol
child birth, and surgery on my belly. i was cut from above my belly button all the way to pubic area. then stapled.insides avd outside hurt like hell. i was afraid of them staples. they pull and get scabby and bleed.
    Yvonne57

    Moderator
carmaxable, I hate those staples too. Did you have to have a c-section? I hear the recover from that takes a while.

My worst pain is when I had bleeding hemorrhoid,I went to see a Dr. I was only 20yr of age then, anyway it was like having a hot iron shove up your rectum, when the DR.decide to snipe it off, local anesthesia doesn't take when you are infected,He had blood all over his office,it was like a nighmare. After that he decide I should get an operation, because they were to far insde.

    leeroy

Wow, almost sounds like a bad joke. Sorry to hear you had such an awful experience and I hope you never have to go through something like that again.
    facebook

I hope not,but I still bleed now then, after the oper try to go for a crap,Boy there were some sweating I can tell you, don't want to go threw that again.
    Tommyh

Oh yeah.I know where you are coming from facebook.I live with those bloody things too.Very uncomfortable!:(
    facebook

Tk you guys for your concern,If there one thing I learn from this pain!it was I didn't know pain, until I had this happen, but stuff that people have gone threw, make me think if there anything worst, please put me out of my misery like real quick.like a303 monphine.and I shurely don't want them kidny stone either.
i hope none of us has to never go through any of these things again!!!!
    Tommyh

Amen to that.& I'm not even religious!!
    leeroy

Lol, yes Amen. I just took my hand full of pills for the night.

It makes me shudder to hear what you all went through. I think life is about suffering more than anything else. may it be phsical or  mental pain. I had a ruptured appentix and passed out in the emergency room. That was a very painful experiece. . I thank God everyday for beeing able to get up every morning and look at the beauty of his creation.

    leeroy

    Ouch!

When I had 3 surgeries in 3 years. And when I had many deep skin boils caused by chemo making my immunity about down to  zero.

As for emotional pain------ When my ex fiance' backed out of marriage twice !  I didn't know it at the time, but he is a sociapath.

And next, when my husband died, it broke my heart.

    leeroy

Thanks for sharing MCM, sound like you've had a lot of difficulties in your life, sorry to hear about that, have you found it has made you stronger as a person? My difficulties and faith have really helped me to be strong in the face of adversity.

Mine would have to be,the dreadful experience I had when I gave birth to my first child 14 yrs. ago, I had a long painful labor, and after 20 hours I was just not progressing,so my doctor walked in and told me he thought it was time to do a cesarean section, after two non successful epidural' s,I agreed, and begged him to hurry up and knock me the hell out, because the pain was unbearable, they administered anesthesia  but because of the two epidurals they were careful about how much to give me,they knocked me out in a sort of twilight sleep,I felt them cut me open,I then felt him cut my uterus open, and worst of all I felt them yank my son out of  my body,(That was the worst),the nurse told the doctor to stop, because I was kicking the table, but the doctor told the nurse he would have to proceed, because he already had started. That was pure hell,it felt like I was being stabbed to death and set on fire all at the same time.It was so bad, that I demanded I be kept awake during cesareans I had with my other two children.

    leeroy

Wow, why didn't the epidurals work? Sorry to hear about that, ouch x 1,000,000.
    IluvJesus

I always wondered why the epidurals didn't work, but I think for some they do and some they don't,I was one of the unfortunate ones.:/

dis located my arm and leg when i fell off a wall when doing rock climbing the rope snaped lol

    leeroy

    Yikes!
    carmaxable

i can almost feel it. how awful. hope your doing well now!

I read that pain is measured in doles. Kidney Stones is somewhere up there with holding a lighted cigarette against your skin.   Like 9 Doles. When I go to the doctor, he always asks me to measure my pain that day. #1 is slight or none  #10 is excrutiating,

    I've come close to #10.

    slipped disc.

    leeroy

I've been there, sorry to hear about that. Back pain is one of the worst and most persistent pains. Hope your better now.
