What do you remember most about the summers when you were young?

When I was a  kid the summers were so much fun and care free, less complicated and more safe.

Ohhhhhh ..... Ahhhhhh ..... The fragrance of the Pacific Ocean and the boom of the waves.

Also, the horror of my dad in shorts sitting at the bar with his cronies. His legs would not tan and they were like sticks. He had a glass of sherry in his clutch and he was king of the court at Martin's Beach in Half Moon Bay.

And across the street from the inn my mom made a salad with cucumbers, radishes, and green onions. The grill ready for our hamburger patties.

When I was a kid during the summer, it was about playing, swimming, having fun, and going on vacations.

bike riding to the beach. playing baseball till it got to dark, water balooon fights on a 90 degree day, chasing the ice cream truck ,only to find i didn't have enough money for an itialian ice, building forts in the woods with all the neighbors scraps, ball tag , rainy days and soup, oh ya and the "am" playing the same old songs.

are you old enough to hear elvis in his beginning? i believe there was an elvis hour and my girlfriend and i would sit around the old radio that didn't work very well. we'd scream at every new song.

Carefree hot Summers with ice cream soda & and sea fishing with my dad - good & happy old days.

i could walk allday on asphalt barefooted now about 25 ft and im screaming like a girl

My husband disliked my hoofs and I disliked his white "girl feet" we're old now and we both have "girl feet" I love your response.
I remember my summers mostly raining for the 1st 2 weeks of our holls we spent it in Scotland in the summerhouse (why they called it that it should have been called the RAIN house ) as it rains a auful lot in western Scotland and when got back down south it was heaven sunny warm then it was swimming in rivers camping making camps out of anything that came across discarded scrumping apples working in the feilds potatoes strawberries carrots it was hard work but I loved it

I only remember one summer of my childhood. Friends, marco polo, bike trails, and a three wheeler... I was the only girl as usual.

playing making trolleys and playing tennis in the sun

You can spell check on this site?

Climbing trees and riding my bike. Those were the days that my parents sent us out the door without needing to see where we were playing...it was safe.

We always took our vacations in New Hampshire (from MA) when I was a kid.  With 8 brothers and sisters I now wonder how my parents had the money to take us anywhere.  Even when we were at home most days were spent at the beach.  I loved the summer we new every kid on the street, most had big families and we all hung out together.  I'm very lucky I have great childhood memories.  My parents were one of a kind, always there for us.

Going to bed on christmas eve, couldn't sleep because of excitement and also the fact that it was swealtering hot.Loved the noise the cicadas made too.
P.S ..Australia's christmas falls in summer time.

Never once did i see santa arrive.
    Ann

I could not imagine Christmas without snow.

Python: I didn't see santa arrive but I heard choir boys on our roof. (age 3)

Melandrupet:: I know you didn't mean it this way but "the rain house" has a sinister sound. It could be a movie or a novel.

chia: I don't know how to spell check on this site. why bother. i'd rather get the correct spellers all fussed up."c'mon, forget about the spelling. Just tell the truth and start typing," says chia. I say Hoo ray for chiangmai

thumbs up for everybody. great question. fun!

Up until age 12 it was bike riding, swimming and playing baseball.
After age 12 it was working on a farm to make money for school clothes and pocket change.
    Ann

I was working on the farm since age 7. But I also had some time to spend with my friends.
The only thing was bad in the summer, we could not wear shoes, They were saved for the colder weather.

Young means under 15 or 16. I think all the boys here are lying.  C'mon, forget about the spelling.  Just tell the truth and start typing.

sunburn, sunburn, sunburn, swimming, sunburn, surfing, sunburn, and girls who were also, sunburnt.

I don't really remember much from my childhood, it was a traumatic one. My favorite summer had to be when we went to Lake Placid for summer camp. I hooked up with the girl who I dated through high school, we dated off and on for about seven years. It was more on than off.

Thanks Mel, it seemed to work towards my advantage in some ways, people always said,(when I spoke with them,)that I seemed much older than my actual age.

my best thing is when i bought a ice cream and this guy pushed it in my face and my dad was there bang bang bang bang the guys on the floor face bleeding hehe

There used to be polar cup trucks that drove through the neighborhood,  their frozen lemonade was excellent. It's a shame the company went under.

Freedom, awesome vacations (road trips), vacationing down south to visit with relatives, and  hanging out with my best cousins and laughing until we would almost explode, giggling and running out of my grandmothers house as she would scold us.Eating candy and drinking soda pop all night long, awwww the good ole days,I really miss those.:(
