It is in the Religious promise of the woman to love, honor and obey the man....who promises to love, honor, and Cherish the woman. When women ask a man to obey he says no, so some women have refused to say obey and modified the vows in the last number of years (only if allowed by the Minister or Priest, however!!) Refusing to say obey doesn't stop either of the parties from acting as if they expect HER to OBEY, even if it was changed in the particular ceremony, since timeless (male) history seems to expect it for "his" woman. The Genesis Bible story appears to say that the adult woman was made to be a mate and companion for the lonely, brooding man who was all alone, and perhaps bored with the Garden of Eden, where other animals had mates(?) Biblical history seems to suggest that patriarchy was "normal" for the fallen humans, and woman was blamed for the downfall (sin), although both ate of the fruit together. Interestingly enough, pictures painted by a major artist, paid by the POPE visioned the SNAKE (Devil) with breasts, tempting Eve to take the apple!! However, human histories did have other tribes, such as the Hawaiian culture of female genealogy (you can always prove who the mother was by birth, and so womwn ruled the ISLANDS FOR CENTURIES, until missionaries brought them the patriarch beliefs,...and sexual diseases which almost killed them off!! It is obvious that Patriarchy and the idea of men ruling the world and all of its inhabitants...women and animals, all living things, and the Planet, wasn't what the Kind, Loving God had in mind, then or now!!
