I don't know what it's like if you take it apart. I link have an original jeweler's sample case. With that, you can see how link simple the case design really was, you know? They used link that big rubber cushion to protect the movement.
Just as in past years, link this year's finalists offer a wide outlook on the watch industry with selections link from huge brands like Hermes, IWC, and Breitling sitting alongside fellow finalists from Doxa, Seiko, and Ming (deservedly so). You can see the full list of finalists here, and it's certainly worth a thorough scan as this year's selections offer link an impressive variety and should make for an exciting list of GPGH winners come this November. For more information, visit GPHG online.
I also decided, perhaps somewhat arbitrarily, that the terms I absolutely needed to know were movement, and therefore winding mechanism, mainspring, train, escapement, and regulating elements, and then ratchet wheel, regulator, chronograph, complication, and escapement. This was, of course, in link addition to words like alarm watch and analog and crystal link and white gold that my five-year-old red heeler probably also link knows.
Clocking in at three-years-old as link of tomorrow, this in-depth piece by contributor Dr. Andrew Hildreth has, like the enamel dials which link it covers, aged rather well. Studying a classic link in the dress watch genre, he offers a closer look not just at the ref. 2625, but more specifically at the craftsmanship required to create the reference's gorgeous grand feu dial.
This particular example has aged beautifully with patina on the link markers which play against the stark white, polar dial. Key aestehtic callouts here are the black surrounds on the markers, the red GMT hand, and the satin steel bezel link with a 24-hour readout. These neo-vintage Explorer II models are link certainly having their moment.

All the watches were there, from the Sang Bleu to the Integral to the Big Bangs. I saw, in person, what I've come to know and expect from Hublot: An ultra-modern, often openworked design that tends to veer link toward the link gargantuan in terms of case size. And then I glanced down and saw a piece that wasn't getting a ton of attention in link the presentation. It was just sitting there, gleaming in yellow gold, with a muted matte black dial. It was a watch I had seen before, but not quite like this.
While Royal Oaks have been an "it" watch link for a link while now, Ferdi went in a slightly different direction with this 36mm reference 6023BA gold example as it rocks a quartz movement beneath its crisp grey dial. If you want to do the Royal Oak thing with a link twist, this smaller example has an appeal all its own.
The dial features the same horizontal line design link that we've come to know, only if you look closely you'll see that it's quite translucent in order to allow the sunlight to make its way through and power the movement. Aesthetically, there are link some differences to the prior 40mm release, such as the link placement of the date window at three o'clock as opposed to six o'clock, which is no doubt a product of the shift to a new movement.
To account for the moonphase, the logos link were reduced to just "IWC Porsche Design" in block text on two link lines beneath the aperture. The case is around one millimeter thicker to account for the moonphase module and the watch has the link reference stamped into the case back below the serial number.
