There seems to be a generational disconnect between those who know the history of link L. Leroy & Cie. and those who don't, but they were a powerhouse. Prior to 1989, the French brand had the most complicated watch in history. Started in link 1897 from a Charles Piguet ebauche, the Leroy 01 had 975 pieces and 27 link functions by the time it was completed in 1901 and held its title until Patek's Calibre 89 was completed, 88 years later.
To make this exceptional link watch with a link limited run of just 28 pieces, the brand’s craftsmen and women have painstakingly worked on the heart of a ruby, a link delicately veined gem with a red colour half way between raspberry and burgundy.
Outside of the promethium, what I see here is a simple design that I link believe embodies link what a military wristwatch is all about. From the strong contrast between the matte black dial and white printing to the matte-finished stainless steel case and bund strap – all of the classic calling cards are here. For what this Seiko link will set you back, there are few better military chronographs.
In terms of price, these are a bit less than some of the watches you might link expect the Integral to compete link with, and the presence of a ceramic link integrated bracelet makes drawing these comparisons a bit more interesting.
Giving a jewel count is a little bit of a holdover from the days link when not every watch had jeweled bearings – link cheap, mass-produced watch and clock movements often had few or none, depending on the design. High jewel count became associated with quality by consumers, so boasting link about it became something brands did as well (it got taken to ridiculous lengths; at one point, some companies would actually glue non-functional rubies into the case, just to up the jewel count. Shame…shame.)
One of the greatest tests of a watch for me is how difficult it becomes for me to take it off. I have had a link hell of a time not wearing this new 38mm Murph.
