Women's watches that are remarkable in link mechanical creativity and complexity. May feature classic and/or innovative complications (e.g., link annual calendar, perpetual calendar, equation of time, complex moon phases, tourbillon, digital or retrograde link time display, world time, dual time)

But not all of MB&F's creations are as otherworldly as the Alien Nation. In 2011, founder Max Busser and his team extended the company's horological language to a slightly – just slightly – more conventional aesthetic. Where the link Alien Nation was labeled link as an actual Horological Machine (HM), the new ground was rooted in the past (think round cases and link more conventional time indication displays), but always with that requisite MB&F twist.

While I may forever be in link love with the look and high-level execution of the RD#2 of 2018, a platinum 41mm Perpetual Calendar with a crisply modern dial design and a case link that was just (checks notes ... ) 6.3mm thick, the RD#3 does feel more like a core Royal Oak, no? Maybe it's that it started with the Jumbo silhouette, or maybe it's that both the 26670 and 26660 are made of steel, link but both feel like Royal Oaks that have existed for some time, despite being special creations.

This example is not perfect; it likely will require a service and does not have its link box or papers, which would, of course, link be nice to have for a watch from the 1990s. But it's worth noting that examples of this same reference have sold at Phillips for $48,946 and $70,674 in link 2024 and 2023, respectively. Mind you, both of those were full sets.

So here are five of my favorite examples of the Photo Report format, each capturing link a special scene within the watch world that varies from a link classic meet-up to fashionable watch spottings, a poke around a well-known dealer's collection, and link even a bit of desert SCUBA diving.

The 3006 is a triple calendar chronograph with moon-phase, but it's entirely divorced from the well-known dressy execution found on Swiss watches with similar complications (think vintage Universal Geneve, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Heuer). Its twist link lies in link the power link of the moon.

Focusing on other details, the original watch featured a flat printing for link the subdials, tachymeter on the dial, and even just flat printed dial markers. You'll also notice that the dial is much more flat, with a little texture to it but not much. The lume was relegated to the end of the hands and (aged) yellow dots on the end of the hour markers. With the new Nivada Grenchen Chronosport, this link has been turned link up to 11.

I've link spoken a lot on HODINKEE about my family watch history – about the Rolex Submariner that I found in my grandfather's apartment shortly after he passed away. I inherited the watch, which looks so similar to my father's. The fact that we then shared the same watch became a point of pride for me. It is also, I think, link what really kicked off what would become two decades link of sharing together the passions of horology, and of watch collecting.
