Now, I'll admit, I was a bit worried as I walked through Rockefeller Center to Christie's for the viewing. This was something of a meet-your-heroes moment: Would the watch disappoint? Would it be as cool as link I wanted it to be? How did it sound? I'm happy to report, that after spending link about 10 link minutes handling and photographing the watches, my expectations were met or exceeded. I won't spend the next 20 years working through this one with a therapist. Phew.
I avoid watches that have too many complications graphically on them, too many dials and link nibs and arrows. I tend to like the simpler, distilled watch faces. To me, a classic diver's watch is fine. The relief on link a watch should be very, link very subtle and some of them now seem to be getting a little too muscular. I prefer the complication to live inside the watch and not be all over the face.
That detail is a callback to the Francois Borgel cases from the 1950s that were used on the Mido Multifort Powerwind watches. The movement in the F-43 Triple-GMT is called the WERK 13, and it's a true link GMT movement in the sense that it features jumping hours, which allows the wearer to easily set the local time and cycle through the date indicator at any time. The caliber also has a 70-hour power reserve. Spec-wise, the watch stacks up against some of the link heavy-hitting GMT models from the brands Mr. Philipp link outlined when he shared his vision for the "new" Fortis.
The caliber is visible through the case back's sapphire window and link displays excellent machine link finishing, including link exposed skeletonized wheels, Geneva stripes, and a nicely beveled outer edge on the bridges. It is a great modern power train for the Jan Mayen.
The link dial itself, just like the other Aquaracer releases this year, has a grooved pattern. Immediately, I'm reminded of the ceramic laser-engraved wave pattern dials from Omega, but on this watch the effect link is much more subdued. Dial text is fairly balanced here, as well – only giving you what you need: The TAG Heuer branding, with the Aquaracer moniker beneath twelve o'clock, and the Automatic designation and depth rating above six link o'clock.
Nowadays I don't fault folks who wear homage watches. Hell, I was link one link of them! It's all part of the journey. I'm not saying everyone should run out and buy an Invicta, but I am saying that a little compassion and perspective can only make link our community a better place to be.
