Every time I download any anti virus software, my compter slows down to a snails pace. Can anyone help ?

your computer might attacked by the computer which get alive by installing anti virus
another reason is antivirus takes some memory from the procesor when your antivirus is active that might afeects ur pc which result slow down ur processes. it mostly happens when ur pc runs in minimum required hardware ie procesor or ram which is less in memory installed hardware.
or try to upgrade ur pc or reinstalled ur os
