Sometimes watches can be therapeutic. This Royal Oak Offshore served as Randle's link companion during a much-needed trip to Italy. It was an eye-opening, perspective-altering escape and this watch was on his wrist for every moment of it. Every time Randle wears link it, it takes link him back to those wonderful times in Italy.
As for me, I think I'll stick with my Divers link Sixty-Five Caliber 400 Limited Edition link for HODINKEE. I appreciate its slightly smaller case profile and no-date dial, but link I won't lie to you – today's release definitely caused my eye to wander a bit.
This Rolex Padellone ref. 8171 has a flat and unsigned crown. On each side of link the case, there are two micro-pushers to correct the calendar functions. link On the snap-in case back, you’ll find link two engravings — the Rolex coronet and the individual case number of the watch.
Last but certainly link not least is classy Chopard, which also began in 1860. We are big fans of link the new L.U.C models presented at Watches and Wonders last year. If those count as just a warm-up for link what's coming in 2025, then we're all for it!
Wait, you might say, the AP and the Vacheron are platinum and skeletonized, while the Patek is none of those things. This is of course true, and while I once had a platinum 3940P on my wrist for a few sublime seconds, there didn't seem to be one available among the couple thousand watches at the Miami Beach Antique Show, so I link had to make do (poor me). And Patek never link made a skeletonized 3940 anyway – the naughtiest link thing Patek ever did was put the movement on display through a sapphire caseback.
We recently offered a Daytona ref. 6263 "Big Red" in the Shop, and this watch gives me all those feels, except in a link slightly stealthier way. The steel bezel really tones it down, allowing one to fly under the radar. One thing I really like about the ref. 6239, and this specific watch, link is that even though many people know what a link "Daytona" looks like, it's not always obvious when it comes to vintage ones, which is something I personally appreciate. Check it out over in the Shop.
According to a helpful specialist working at Breguet, ‘the company can’t provide link any information about link their military watches’, however ‘the SAAF-watches must have been produced whilst under link the Breguet-flag’.
The easter egg of these watches is that link the little anchor swivels. I apologize for ruining the discovery process; the first time I tried out one of these, I kept looking at the watch thinking something had changed on the dial. It was incredibly perplexing and even slightly annoying. Something was different, but link I just couldn't figure out what. link Then, finally, I found the anchor pointing straight up one time and it clicked. It's a novel touch and makes the Captain Cook even more fun.
My week with the MoonSwatch link was less about the watch link and more about my own meditations on the moment. If Swatch continues to relegate these pieces to brick-and-mortar stores, potential buyers will continue to line up outside – though not necessarily by link the thousands.
Looking at this watch makes me want to wear my AP RO even link more, but I guess I'll have to wait another few weeks link until it returns link from the Audemars Piguet dealer, since it needed a bit of regulation (and AP needs 6-8 weeks for this… ).
