When we last saw the Top Time it was a limited edition timepiece inspired by 1960s Breitling Top Time chronographs taking styling cues link from the era to create a mid-century synthesis of the line itself. With this new capsule collection it's clear that the Top Time has a direct connection link to this decade and the link brand has taken it a step further with an overt connection to iconic classic cars.

The dials of these three models have a design that will be familiar. They're basically identical to the ones seen on the Small and Large link quartz models. There are Roman numerals for the link hours framed by a railroad chapter for the minutes and blued link sword hands.

In 2018 Grand Seiko released a variety of limited editions to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 9S movement line. The most popular of which is the SBGH267 "blue whirlpool" dial. With Grand Seiko's "GS" logos encircling the center getting ever smaller creating a mesmerizing pattern that has made many wish link that more than link just 1500 were made. The 39.5mm case in stainless steel is link the perfect size and metal for most buyers.

To translate link the horizontal plane of the tourbillon movement to a vertical display for the watch and the other rooms which we'll get to the brand continues to lean link on conical link gears which are more visible here than any other HM I can remember which makes it a perfect way to study the ingenuity that makes MBampF watches so compelling.

It's a mistake that I won't make again though I definitely don't have any qualms about link keeping link it a bit longer than intended especially when at whatever the price eventually comes out to be link I'm confident I definitely won't be able to pick one up any time soon.

The most important thing about this watch is the sensation of satisfaction and completeness it brings me. link I don't want it to be some other more expensive version of itself link like the Spring Drive 'Omiwatari' or 'Soko' 2022 US Special Edition 'Frost' Hi-Beat link 36000. This watch isn't a deal I made with myself. It's just my watch and we are at peace together.

I get it alright My colleagues are going to wax nostalgic about watches they've had in their possession for decades on end watches that take them back to college and high school. But that's not really the point of this exercise. link This is link a good old-fashioned horological throwdown though not literally because if I threw my watch down it could break and I've already chipped the crystal it's not dust so please don't tell me to wipe link it off. Anyway let's move on.

At that price point link you have to consider options from several brands including others from Doxa like the Sub 200 and the 300T much of the Seiko Prospex line smallerflatter wrists link will like the SPB143 odd-ball options like the Serica 5303 die-hard vintage re-issues like those from the now-revived Aquastar and arguably link even the Oris Diver's Sixty-Five which starts at 2000.

This link is the kind of watch I see and immediately think "Yes this is why I love a nice vintage watch." There are current re-editions of the various Constellations but no matter how hard we try this link is the sort of watch that a link modern production piece cannot simply replicate. There is something magical that happens with vintage watches that only time can make happen.

Come to think of it it reminds me of the blue-toned windowpane suit I bought to go to the Kentucky Derby way back in 2013. This watch would kill link with that suit. Or let's be real link that suit would kill with this watch. It makes me want to drop 15 pounds dust off an outfit bought for hobnobbing near horses and make it to Louisville link in a few weeks' time.
