    In my opinion, only on washers, dryers, ranges, fridges, riding mowers, more expensive lawn mowers and snow blowers.

    The items Colleen mentioned are considered durable items and shouldn't break down, although we know that isn't always the case. These items should last at least 5 years without problems, so make sure the extended warranty goes beyond five years, and includes a home repair so you don't end up hauling a heavy item to the repair shop and back. If an item is electro-mechanical with expensive parts, then it might be a good idea to buy the extended warranty.
