Down here Varon, I just jumped in. It's a bit cold. I fell in backwards because if I fall front on, I'll damage my good-looks. I might end up looking like you. Haa, ha.

Very good eggplant, and if you end up looking like me and then you are going to look no only as a man but very, very handsome . Ha-ha-ha

we all like a good mental challenge
    varon

Good to know that. Me too
Because the weight of the tanks would hurt the back if you hit the water first.
    varon

    Nope, good try though
So he doesn't rip his mask off.
    varon

Nope. I will give you the answer in a minute
They don't really have to do this. They can go in feet first, or just climb down the boat ladder. They fall backwards in movies, b/c there was a TV show on in the 50s, or 60s, called '' Sea Hunt," where Lloyd Bridges was a scuba diver and he always sat on the side of the boat and fell backwards into the water.

This a very good logical answer, but when you read the answer later don't kill me, please

Ok I am not eggplant and I dont get the joke but here is my answer.Given the weight of the oxygen tank on your back and the fact that it makes you top-heavy, it is simply the most efficient way of getting into the water from a small boat; standing on the edge and jumping off forwards would upset the craft's balance and you would not be able to keep your balance and would fall either forwards or backwards.

Jenn, Daren got it right. But your explanation is good. I would give you a B+
Is this a joke question or a serious one? I see the comment, "Eggplant, this is for you". I know she likes to post jokes. :)

    Thanks again
    Who's eggplant???
    varon

Eggplant is a member who always posts jokes

because Lloyd Bridges did it on TV in a show called  '' Sea Hunt ''  in the 50s.. Then, the kids that watched that passed it on to their kids and on and on.   If you watch modern shows about scuba diving, They just hop off the side of the boat, feet first  , head up
