The diameter of your pipe at a certain PSI determines your flow rate over a given period of time. Beyond that, what I learned almost 40 years ago as a Boiler Technician in the Navy, is long forgotten. But, you might be able to find a book on boilers in your local library.
The most important thing to remember is, make sure you go with the recommended diameter pipe in order to avoid problems. I use to have a book on pipe fitting, and this had a lot of those types of formulas in it. So, if you know of a pipefitter, or a current boiler operator...they could probably look it up for you pretty easily.
