I agree with the owner.  It's a place of business and the employees need to be able to communicate properly with the customers.  The employees can speak and behave however they wish when they are off the clock.

Imagine....the nerve of a business who actually sets the standard that they choose to set within their own walls. How disgusting is that!! I must be odd but I appreciate a young person speaking English to me instead of "Yo Mama, what choo want"?

I went to the Peking Duck(y) Restaurant in New York's Chinatown. All the waiters were speaking Cantonese. "Who knows" what slang they were using! What do you think about restaurants which feature duck?

I think they are mean. :(

My little brother came home saying things like “it was really onion”, what that meant I had no idea. From the context, I could figure it out.  He outgrew it though and speaks very well and all business now that he’s hit 50. There is hope, let the kids speak however, I outgrew it, too……...

What was the "onion" anyway? Was it a ring he gave his girlfriend?

I heard one years ago, that I never understood either, stated after anyone related a story about anything...."What a caution". (huh?)

A business should be run with respect and a level of professionalism from the top to the bottom and the bottom up.

I don't want to listen to a bunch of slang from employees.  It is ignorant.

It bothers me when I am dining with girl-friends and the wait-person comes up and says something along the lines of, "Hi, you guys.  I'm Shaniqua and I'll be your server tonight.  What can I get you guys to drink?"

It's done politely and with a friendly smile, but, seriously, "you guys"???

    Were their names "Bob" also?

Even worse..."What can I get yous to drink"? Or sometimes it's softened to "yiz"? Ugh!!!

Still worse: "Would you like any 'QUACKERS' with your soup?"

The right training at the get-go could make a big difference. Employers should never assume their young (or middle aged, or older) employees have manners or customer service abilities. That needs to be part of the training process.

I just hope a lot of businesses ban the F word. I even heard an employee in the BIG BOY ( young woman ) say to another employee ( young man )....... M- -  - - -r  F- - - - - -r !! . I reported her b/c it dulled my appetite while I was at the salad bar. It sounded so vulgar and squalid.
