It was 50 years ago today Australia asked the Band to play --- The Band, the one and only Beatles.

The Beatles came to Australia in 1964, their one and only tour here, they would perform in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and my city of Adelaide would miss out , people of Adelaide signed a petition to get them to come here, we succeeded and they had the largest crowd ever to welcome them, in excess of 300,000 half the population of Adelaide, i was lucky enough to get a ticket to their concert, it was great for a 14 year old to see but i could not hear a thing for the continous screaming of hysterical girls--- as you can see i was and still am a fan of the Beatles, did any of the aka's see them.

My brother's sister in law and family live in Adelaide, they have been there for about 40 years. They won the lottery out there/ down there back in the 70 s . She is coming over here with her brothers daughter next month, nice family.

I was 15 in 1964. My bro had grad from H.S. the spring of '64. My dad wouldn't not take me down town Detroit to see the Beatles Concert. . I didn't know anybody who was going who I could go with. But,after the fact, one of the girls at school said she had gone and showed us her ticket.-- - the lucky stiff.

No never saw them live, they didn't come to Essex, I could have gone to London to see them . But, being a country boy in 1964 it was a big day out to go to London even though it was only 50 miles away. How things have changed. They were a great group , and their music is still popular today.

I Saw Gorge at Morden station once,He smiled at me,

I was born in 1957 so I wasn’t at the screaming age yet. I knew who they were but it took adulthood to appreciate them fully……….

same with me and Elvis. I saw him on Ed Sullivan when I was 4. So, wasn't a big fan of his b/c was too young.

Elvis thet is one singer i would have liked to seen him live, it's a pity he starred in crap movies.:)

I wasn't impressed with them right away, but that's just the way I was...not going along with the crowd.  Never screamed or cried at a concert, either, and don't understand that emotional response.

"JERSEY BOYS" is coming to theaters in about a week....about Frankie Vallee and the 4 Seasons.  THAT I am looking forward to seeing!

I do enjoy a lot of Beatles' songs, by the way.  COME TOGETHER is one of my favorites, odd that it is...

    Beatles, forever,

For sure. Stones, too; they've been around forever!

I use to like Queen best,
    Bob/PKB

Gary Lewis and the Playboys? Herman's Hermits? The Monkees? Partridge Family? Lovin' Spoonful?

Queen had some great stuff we still hear all the time. :D

My dad's band [ whom you've never heard of and never will ] was bumped from the Ed Sullivan show to make room for the Beatles at the last minute which made my family very unhappy as we had planned to move to California etc. etc...I still have the letter they sent him .. I wasn't a fan [of the Beatles] until they became acid-head hippies though ... I still love Yoko.

    You love YOKO? Oh NO!

... she may sing like a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs .... but she is an amazing woman of philanthropic nature ... sad she had to see her beloved John shot down .. shocking ...

I have to agree with the tragedy of seeing a loved one murdered. There's just something about her that was off-putting to me.
    lindilou

The media surrounding she and John's relationship did nothing for her popularity though I believe that, in the long run, the lads saw what a great bond of love the two had... the 'love-in' they held was precious and priceless!
The photos were so avant garde! for the day ...

They came to the U.S. also, in  ' 64. The girls at the airport went crazy. Then, the first time I saw them on Ed Sullivan, it blew me away. I put my face into a pillow, b/c I knew I was going to cry ( from happiness and excitement ) My dad ruined the moment by yelling, " Well, if THIS is how it's gonna effect you, we'll turn it OFF !  "   I don't think my dad knew much about raising teenage girls.
