Paper chromatography is one of several chromatographic methods that is used in the laboratory to separate various components of a mixture. The mixture is place at the origin of the paper strip, and then solvent is allowed to flow up/down the paper strip via capillary action. As the solven migrates, so do the various components of the mixture, but they do so at different rates, depending on their solubility in the solvent and their affinity for the paper.
