    Lent begins this Wednesday.

...which means mardi gras is Tuesday.  Do you observe either?  How do you celebrate mardi gras?  How do you celebrate/observe the lenten season (40 days, not counting Sundays, until Easter).

We had our National Mardi Gras in Sydney last weekend. The "Gay & Lesbian" Mardi Gras.

Tuesday was Fat Tues. We eat Paczkis  ( pronouced  poonchkeys )  There are more polish people here than any other ethnic group. Fat Tues stems from when Catholics knew they had to fast for lent, so they hurried and used up every bit of larder, fat, and grease in their pantry on Fat Tues, so they wouldn't be tempted to eat doughnuts, etc, during lent.
