    whats the best way to dig a post hole in hard ground?

    first, try busting up the ground with a pic-axe. Then, use a gas powered post-hole digger.

    First you need a PHD,,post hole digger !!

    ok then, just use a manual hand operated post hole digger...Or dig a hole with a pic axe and shovel.

    Dig down as far as you can & then fill the hole with water.Let it soak in then dig again.Repeat this process until you reach the required depth.Please note: I did NOT say this was EASY! But it does make it EASIER.

    hahaha! That's a joke I use with the grandkids when they're digging.I tell them to look in the hole to see if they can see China yet.

    Everyone has given good advise. The only thing I can add from personal experience is: If you use a powered post hole digger of any type, gas powered, tractor pto powered, be very careful as you can get them stuck...........Then you learn a lotta new words..
