why is it always that when i'm being sarcastic, funny, or both it always ends up being serious?

whenever i'm joking around, it just has to be serious. whats up this? and no, not the sun or the sky.

Ah....I'm pretty dead pan when Im sarcastic and people who don't know me think I'm serious (which I then have to explain so they don't think I'm a jerk)

If you and I got together, we'd have a fight within minutes. You would think I'm the jerk and I would think you are! We could do sarcasm at its best and then "I'm joking...I'm joking". LOL!!!

We'd have a blast and end up laughing til we cried. One of my Bestest friends and I do this and we laugh and laugh and people think we're both mean and nuts!!!

All of my friends are sarcastic too, or at the very least, they "get it" and think it's funny. Sarcasm is difficult to explain to those who don't. :)

Doo, that happens to me all the time too. See my comment below. But, I find that jewish people are easier to joke around with b/c they get my quips and laugh. My black friends think I'm funnier than my white friends do.

It's called a dry sense of humor.

    Sounds like us

People sometimes just don't understand sarcasm as humor, especially if it is directed AT them.  "Tone" is a big part of what is funny or not.  Some people just don't "get" dry humor. It all depends on who you are with and the situation in which you find yourself.
Some people are NEVER going to find some things humorous.

Then Jerry Seinfeld is one of the angriest people I've ever seen doing stand up comedy and one of the few who doesn't curse throughout his whole routine nor use filth and think THAT'S funny. :)

She was a great dancer, wasn't she? Funniest dance ever. lol

Like me, it seems that you are over-expertly delivering your lines.

In order to clue someone in on your humor, you should let out a laugh as loud as you possibly can just after the sarcasm is received.

Then abruptly STOP. That way, they'll know it was a joke AND that you weren't laughing at them.

Other than that, you may be overly self-centered.

fig,Years ago, I noticed my girlfriend doing that when she said something kidding, so I started doing it. It doesn't work for me....even if I laugh after I say something kiddingly, there's still that person that quietly stares at me. You can hear the crickets chirping.

mycatsmom- I'm in the same boat with you- I've had people think I was serious and then was laughing at them. The people that "get it" think it's hysterical especially if the sarcasm is directed to them.

Perhaps was a grammar teacher of yours or your Guru at some time?? Jus' curious is all.... ;)

when I read this question in the right > > > column, I thought I had written it.........b/c I have gotten in trouble for saying quips of the top of my head that I thought were funny. And people usually ignore it, or give me a wierd look,or yell at me for it. I like to make people laugh. That's why I say funny things, but it never goes over well. No, I don't say anything degrading or critical, or off color about anybody ,or anything.

Sarcasm is wasted on the ignorant. Get smarter friends. Don't apoligise, let them think you're a jerk. You don't need them. Then move on to total cynicism. If you have any friends left after that, know that these are your true friends. You can at last relax and be yourself without worrying what others think.
