Eggs are laid, not born and chickens hatch from eggs. Eggs were first produced by ancient marine organisms…long before chickens.
Lindiou…Yup…chickens hatch, but are not laid. Eggs are laid by many different creatures including chickens. Only chickens produce eggs that hatch into chickens. But many other birds produce eggs and when they hatch some are called chicks but may not be part of the chicken line. A study of terminology will add to the confusion so much that a lifetime may be required to straighten it all out and still have unanswerable questions regarding terms. It’s probably best to leave it alone and be satisfied with a happy day instead of delving into this more deeply.

...ok robertgrist..so...the eggs get laid but not the chicken...is that right?? 8D

    :-).Too funny Ducky!

So, it's the ole 'which came first' question eh? The chicken or the egg??

This is a conundrum! If the chicken came first..then how? And if the egg came first..well..then who laid the egg?? And where was the rooster all that time?? Oh my....

but dearest lindilou, what about the EEG? See ROMOS answer above? : D

LOL I missed that one babe!! Bwahaha! ;D

God in her infinite wisdom was busy creating things and discovered that some critters were eating each other and were sharing recipes . This irked her Godliness to no end and  She decided to point critters to what they should be eating by making it easy for them and made chickens breed lots more than most other critters, announce their presence with clucking and crowing, lay eggs every day, nest on the ground, roost on low branches and run laboriously rather than fly only a few feet.

The numbers of chickens soon  occupied every land and critters turned to eating chickens rather than each other…..and God smiled in satisfaction.

The same way God became a man. Some one decided to be funny. God has no form. IT is neither man nor female.

First it was a UFO! That came here for breakfast and by misstake took a chicken egg which was suppose to be a Ducky eggs. So now you know how the chicken egg got started, now the Ducky egg is a whole new story. Could be urban legend?

Ok . The chicken came first. A protein discovered in a chicken ovary forms the egg.

Were you born first or your mother!
