    An approach to learning in which students are first taught the rules and given all the information they need about the language. Then they use these rules in language activities.

    Taking away all the possibilities that don't fit in until you are left with probable causes......

    Sticking your finger in a fire and knowing not to do it again.

    Compare it to a detective working a crime case.  They look for the clues, research more, refine the search, and put the pieces together, and come up with the solution, or criminal, to solve the crime!
