Why do so many people of the religious persuasion use prey for pray?

The religious ones are preying on the prayers? Because I can say for a fact, I see more religious people saying prey.
Religious and/or semi-educated, I've noticed this, too.............

It just looks so wrong when someone says, "I'll prey for you". Makes the person a victim of the prayer in my way of seeing it.
