      8:7 would be my answer.   40/35 is reduced by dividing both by 5, leaving 8/7


      It isn't .875/1.00.......   That is like 17 1/2 % 
      In a gambling situation, were the odds 8:7 and you bet $50 and won, your winnings would be $43.75.  Your wager exceeds the odds.
