    my tv brand is insignia it show a full screen dvd picture but not regular channels, by cable carrier is brighthouse

      Sounds like someone clicked on your CC button and didn't click though to get to closed caption or didn't click it off.  Try doing that first and let me know if it works.  Some older TV's have 4 or 5 captions that really don't work.
