    the blinker control switch under the steering wheel could be defective

    It sounds like the Flasher mechanism is shorting out on you which means you'll likely have to have it removed and replaced.Here's a  link for Jeep parts and good luck with this:http://www.jeep4x4center.com/grand_cherokee/menu.htm

    i was told it may be the multi function switch is that what your calling the flasher mechanism thanks for all the help

    The flasher relay unit is probably over heating due to excessive use.Which means it's time to replace it.Not a big job & not too expensive.Any auto electrician can probably do it in 5 minutes.
