    What is your favorite salad?

I love an Italian Tomato, Basil, Mozzerella and Onion ... just can't get enough.  I vary on the theme with feta cheese and red onion at times ... I just love it!

An awesome, basic, delicious combination! Am a huge fan of feta, too. And fresh tomatoes,..and onions,...and basil, too! Use those ingredients in most of all I cook. In our visit to Ireland a yr and a half ago, I loved the broiled tomatoes for breakfast so much that when I came back home I created toppings for the broiled tomato and it is delicious!! I add garlic powder, salt, pepper, dried oregano, dried basil and broil them till soft and then add feta cheese sprinkled all over the top of them. Utterly scrumptious!!

    Do you use fresh mozzerella?
    FISH-O

Michmar, I do that too and I also do the same for zucchini. Delicious... I do use fresh garlic and either roast it of saute' it in olive oil... mmmmm.
    FISH-O

Clu... I have to be a bit careful with mozzerella as I am allergic to dairy but we are very lucky to live within walking distance of a wonderful gourmet shop that has freshly made mozzerella. I love a treat once in a while!

Grilled  chicken on a bed of $100 dollar bills, and a biscuit.   Its becoming cheaper to eat money than it is to buy food!

    FISH-O

Yes it is... We eat locally and organic. It is acutually much less expensive if you can believe it. And we are supporting our neighbours.
    caddam

Yes I can believe it. We have a once a week farmers market, mostly behind the house farmers, which for the most part grow organic. Its seasonal

Good on you caddam, home gardens it's our future..

Spring mix lettuce with strawberries, mandarin oranges walnuts and sweet vinaigrette dressing is a yummy salad.

    FISH-O

    That sounds lovely!

I make a variation of Country Bumpkins.  Baby spinach, feta cheese (or a similar tasting cheese), sliced strawberries, sliced almonds and a Raspberry Walnut Vinaigrette.  It is awesome- especially in the summer!  & it is so easy to make!!!

    FISH-O

    Yumm!
    doolittle

Double YUMM- Give it a try!!!!
    FISH-O

I would love to. Sad and true, this little fish is allergic to nuts, strawberries and raspberries. When you eat this enjoy it twice... once for you and once for me.
    doolittle

I will...and Ill think another salad for you!!
    fjoel

    sounds really good,yum.
    caddam

Good combination Doo. May I suggest adding a t-spoon of basalmic, seems to enhance the raspberry.
    doolittle

Thank caddam- I'll give it a try!

I love cilantro and baby spinach, with real homegrown tomatoes and onions. Sometimes iI crumble a hard boiled eggt over it and use only fresh lemon juice and olive oil for dressing

    jhharlan

    What is a beetroot?
    lindilou

A beetroot is just a beet and some extrapolate by saying "root" as it is one.Peace. No not peas!!! Peace!

Yours is one of my all time favorites but last sunday I made a massaged kale salad for the first time and I was asked to make it again this weekend... mmm... mmm. Tomatoes MUST be either homegrown or organic from (real) famer markets.

    FISH-O

Your salad sounds amazing. We eat locally and organic. Our home is located in the middle of farm land... "The City in the Country". We also grow a lot of our own vegetables.
I have never had your salad. What is the recipe if you don't mind me asking?
    pej

I just stole your answer Ed. It's my favorite too!

Black bean,  diced red onion, garlic, cilantro, celery, fresh tomato, black pepper  in an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.   Outstanding and delicious and very satisfying, has staying power without the "meat".  Never tire of it.

    FISH-O

I have never tried that one. I have never even heard of that one. I am going to have to make it and see what my husband thinks. It sounds right down his alley.

This one's deluxe...chopped broccolli crowns with minced purple onion and whole green or red seedless grapes and sunflower seeds all gently slathered in coleslaw dressing...darn!...2:51 am and for some reason I'm starving...

    clu

I make one like this ,but I use dried cranberries instead of grapes and I add bacon bits
    FISH-O

Sounds like a great salad for pot lucks... What is coleslaw dressing?...
    It's recipe time!

Tabacco, with all 4K chemicals. Yuuum.

    FISH-O

    Very funny!

Vegetables are unhealthy. Their roots grow in the top 18 inches of soil. This layer of dirt is where all the garbage in the air resides after a rain. I would say this jokingly for years because I was never a veggie person. Guess what? A scientist made that claim several months ago on TV after chemically analyzing the vegetable.

Rabbit Food!! :)  I like Italian, I make my own dressing -  I like most all dressings but nothing with mayo in it..  No Blu Cheese either.   Yuk! And please no Ranch!! Barf!

    FISH-O

I am with you on the dislike for Blu cheese and ranch...
I make my own dressings as well. It is sooooo easy and far more delicious. Thank you Magic Bullet!

    FISH-O

I just finished a salad of spinach, feta, dried cranberries, walnuts, and raspberry vinegarette. HOWEVER...
Those Ceasar Salads are probably my favorite.  Pass on the anchovy paste, though.
I have a great recipe for a simple pasta salad that is deeeeelicious. I think I'll make it when I get home.
    Thanks, Fishlet.

    FISH-O

I like mostly all salads.  I like cold slaw from Kentucky Fried Chicken.  I like a salad from Trader Joe's which is spinich, dried cranberries, walnuts, cheeze and dressing.  I use various things in my salads, spinach, lettuce, advocado are staples.  I like olive oil and lemon juice for dressing.

    I know! Right!?!

    MASSAGED KALE SALAD

    Ingredients

1 bunch of kale (black kale is best); stalks removed and discarded, leaves thinly sliced. Any kind of baby kale is the best, no need to remove anything.

    1 juice from one lemon

1/4 (or less) cup extra-virgin olive oil,

    Kosher salt

    2 teaspoons organic guava syrup

2 teaspoons of dry cranberries or blueberries

    Freshly ground black pepper

1 papaya or equivalent of large Mexican papaya diced small (about 1 cup)

2 rounded tablespoons or so (small handful) of toasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds) or sun flower seeds or walnuts

    Directions

In large serving bowl, add the kale, half of lemon juice, a drizzle of kosher salt. Let it sit for up to 5 minutes Massage until the kale softens, gets dark green and little wet for 1 to 2 minutes. Set aside while you make the dressing.

In a small bowl, whisk the lemon juice with guava syrup and freshly ground black pepper. Stream in the 1/4 cup of oil while whisking to form the dressing.

Pour the dressing over the kale, mix it up. Place the desired amount on white large salad plates. Top it with papaya and the toasted nuts Sprinkle additional salt and black pepper if needed.

    Pofta buna!

    FISH-O

Thanks Val! This sounds wonderful. I am definitely going to make this.
