Your fraction is "improper" because the numerator is larger than the denominator.  Divide the numerator (34) by the denominator (5).  Your answer is 6, with 4 remainder.  6 4/5.    You could also call the quotient 6.8, which is 6 8/10 which is 6 4/5.
Any improper fraction can be reduced to its simplest proper form by dividing the numerator by the denominator.

    6 & 4/5

    6-4/5

first , look at the origional fraction. 34/5 now, because it is top heavy and we know there are several 5's in 34 you can figure out how many...5*5=25, 5*6=30, 5*7=35  so the ans would be 6, now what is left 4/5 so the answer is 30 4/5.

Simple divide 5 into 34 which is 6 and remain 4 therefore answer is 6 &4/5
