I was born in 1946, an even-numbered year. So were Dr Harold Shipman, George Best and Lord Pratt.
On the other hand, so were Joanna Lumley, Helen Mirren and Barbara Amiel. Some may conclude that it was a better year for women than men.
It was also one of the worst years on record for wine (in Europe, anyway), whereas 1947 was one of the very best.
