    No you don't have too but  I would suggest you do  or at least snow tires with  weight over the rear axle and carry you a bucket of sand for traction on ice in case you and just spinning out on ice

    I agree with Matheneyg,. Personally I suggest vehicle without front wheel drive, sometimes even then you should have chains depending on the conditions and how experienced the driver in certain conditions.
