Hey bulletman, I'm getting rid of my chooks. Since I found out about that disease, they're going. I've had slugs in the chook food and the chooks won't eat it. I don't want the slugs on my vegies and fruit.
I saw your post is it really that bad, has anyone actually died from this rat - lung disease. i suppose having chooks does attract mice and rats; if you keep the coop clean as possible you may not have any worries. otherwise i guess you hav'nt a choice.

I'm getting rid of them because the food they eat encourages rats and slugs. The slugs climb the walls to the food container and then the chooks won't eat it. There are some rats too. I grow vegies and strawberries plus fruit. Imaging if a slug crawls over the strawberries during the night.
