Depends on the state. 38 states and the District of Columbia adopted the "one-party consent" which means that if one party (including you) is aware the conversation is being recorded then it's legal.
12 states require all parties consent to record a conversation.
These states are: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington.
Unless you're residing in one of those 12 states, then it's legal.
