    I would use a white wine.

    No need to be fussy. Any decent dry white wine will do. It is way too diluted in the recipe to be distinguishable by type, let alone brand. Spend your wine money on good, "drinking" red wine;never on pricey white vino, if you're going to use it for cooking.

    a white semi sweet  should do nicely

    Marsala would be ideal,....and sherry would be a close second.  Both add tremendous flavor!
