Society today has like any civilization in the past  certain factors that could lead to it's own demise.

Atomic war is just one. One must be hopeful about the future as there are many areas which great

improvement has been accomplished.  One can prepare, educate and participate in the issues 

but in the end is responsible  for their own success of failure.
