Many conditions.Muscle sprain, strain, electrolyte imbalance, other soft tissue injury. These are the most common ones. The best advice I can give you is to see your own doctor about this.I am not a doctor.

To make a very long explanation short, its an imbalance of fluids in a muscle contraction.  It could be about blood supply, nerve damage, or again mineral imbalance. The worst is nocturnal cramps, in your sleep. At least for me whenever it happens.

Some say it is simply a side-effect of being alive. I agree with Zorro that the worst is when it happens at night. I am trying the effect of having a drink of tonic water before bed ; so far it seems to be helping.

what kind of cramps? menstrual? leg? please clarify
