Why would a well need a filter ? The water is supposed to be pure.

It might be "pure" (from nature) but the earth is polluted. Those pollutants get into well water along with other stuff.

Oh trust me the water ain't pure.I have had 2 wells on separate properties. One was 80 metres (250ft)deep & the other was 40metres deep. They both had to be filtered for drinking. They say the deeper the well (or bore as we call them)the better the water.Drinking unfiltered artesian water is notorious for causing diarrhoea.

I have a sediment filter, two carbon block filters, one for fluoride-arsenic-lead, one for hydrogen sulfide, and another one similar. 6 total. Then water goes to water softener then a ultraviolet light. Water coming from the ground is never pure. Water is hard here. We then have a reverse osmosis system. The two speciality filters are KDF55 and KDF85 . Saves the plumbing, dishwasher, water heater, and nice softened water to bath in . Our well pump is set 150 feet deep. Dirt farmers here suck the water out of the ground at rates of 600 gallons a minute, during growing season. Oil companies use a tremendous amount of water for drilling. Water flows around a lot here in the ground. Picking up water is in the path. So far its good .
