    Is Vicadan a codeine derivative?

No; Vicodin is hydrocodone and acetominophen.  Although codeine has a very similar chemical structure to hydrocodone, they are two completely different drugs.  Codeine has a "ceiling effect", which means using more won't give greater pain relief, whereas hydrocodone doesn't have a ceiling effect..Both, however, are addictive.
