    Can a 3 year old cocker spaniel (nice bitch, good pedigree) who has been in kennels all her life be gundog trained to a reasonable standard

    First find out if the dog is gun shy, take her out and let off a couple of rounds into the air (use a starter's gun rather than a shot gun), if no reaction try a shot gun round. If she passes this test it's all systems go, if not you can always have her make some nice babies to train from the get go. Not all is lost if she's not into hunting.


    Instincts for hunting dogs is bred into them, you shouldn't have to train her to much except to your commands, that takes yard work not hunting. Lots of yard work for a few months, training to stay and come on command, hold over a bird etc. Good luck with this, nothing says you can't do it with persistence. 

    You sound like a very mean person doing that to a dog keeping her in a kennel al her life?


     


    I think you shoud just fine a good home for that poor dog.
