The term "curriculum vitae" is Latin for "course of life".  It's more comprehensive than a resume, and iin the United States and Canada it's used as a replacement for a resume in medical and academic circles.  It's expected to contain every term of employment, academic credential, publication, contribution or significant achievement. In certain professions; it may even include samples of the person's work and may run to many pages. Many executives and professionals choose to use a short CV that highlights the focus of their life and not necessarily their employment or education.
