    Unless your bills have been vacated/squashed by a court order, I believe the company or it's assigned collector can TRY to collect for a very long time. But bad debts can only remain on your credit file/report for 7 yrs. after it's been reporter as an adverse/defaulted account. At 10 yrs. it becomes a zombie acct. If, you make any type pymt. during the 7yrs. your 7yrs. then starts over after it's been reported again.
