If you put your return address on the envelope, the post office will return your letter back to you and you can re-send it with the correct postage.

If there is no return address on the envelope - kiss the envelope goodbye as there is no way they will know who to return it to.

The post office will not look for an envelope without postage until it gets processed and put aside for lack of postage and then it will be returned to you.
