I do not own a camera and do not know much about cameras but would like to purchase a very good one that is digital i guess that is what they are now? anyway any suggestions on what is the best camera to purchase nowdays and have ways of adding lens as I learn more and more about photography on my own?

You can go to a Camera Shop (and spend more money) but get the advice of a professional regarding the best camera for you to buy etc. or you could look up on ConsumerReports.com and see what they have to say as far as a camera that is worth the money you are paying for it. Even WalMart has camera of every shape and size and hopefully anyone can find one that suits them.
When I went to look for my first digital camera I got one that had the most pixels (for a clearer picture) and ended up with an Olympus. New ones are now much smaller than mine, but just as good if not better and have more pixels too. They all come with an excellent users manual.
