    There are countries that produce them in the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_apple_production Also, apples that are grown in the northern growing season, are stored and distributed in February.

    One interesting aspect of apples which most people are not aware of is they have some 57,000 genes, more than any other plant studied to date. And that‘s not all, apples have far more genes than even humans do, as there are only about 30,000 genes in the human genome.  Referring to your question I would point out that with modern storage methods, apples will retain their quality even after a year.
